How to Set Up Your Call So InterviewMan Hears the Interviewer

Set up your interview call so InterviewMan hears the interviewer clearly: use two devices, keep the call on speaker, skip headphones, and test before the real interview.

Setup Steps

1
Use two devices
Take the interview call on your main device (for example your laptop). Run InterviewMan on a second device (for example your phone). This is the simplest setup that works reliably. Get the app from our download page.
2
Put the call on speaker
Play the interviewer's voice out loud through the speakers of the device you are calling on. InterviewMan listens through the microphone of the device it runs on, so it has to hear the call in the room.
3
Don't use headphones for the call
If the interviewer's voice goes into your headphones (wired, Bluetooth or AirPods), the app's microphone can't hear it. Keep the call on speaker.
4
Place the second device close to the speaker
Put the device running InterviewMan next to the device you are calling on, with nothing covering its microphone. Keep the call volume at a normal, clear level.
5
Test before the real interview
Play a YouTube interview simulator video out loud next to the app, or type a question into Google Translate and press the speaker button. Press Start in InterviewMan. If the question shows up and you get an answer, you are ready for the real interview.
6
Still not hearing the interviewer?
Turn the call volume up a little and move the two devices closer together. Check that InterviewMan has microphone permission and that you pressed Start. Close other apps that use the microphone, and disconnect Bluetooth headphones from the device running the app so it uses its built-in mic. If it still doesn't work, contact support.

Avoid These Two Mistakes

• Headphones on the call: the interviewer's voice never reaches the app's microphone, so the app hears nothing. • The call and the app on the same device, with headphones: the app only hears your own voice, not the interviewer.

App on Your Computer, Call on Your Phone

You can also flip the setup around: • Run InterviewMan on your computer. • Take the call on your phone, on speaker, next to the computer. • Only one app can use the microphone at a time, so close other apps that use the mic.

App on Your Phone, Call on Your Laptop

This is the most common setup: • Take the call on your laptop, on speaker. • Run InterviewMan on your phone, next to the laptop. • Don't take the interview call on the same phone that runs the app. During a phone call, the phone keeps the microphone for the call. • Allow microphone access for InterviewMan in your phone's settings.
