Online assessments (OAs) on HackerRank, CodeSignal, Codility and similar platforms are mostly text on a screen. That makes screenshots the fastest way to get AI help: capture the question, press Assist, read the answer. This is what people mean by an AI screenshot solver or a coding test copilot.
It only works well if the AI can see the whole question. This guide shows how to take screenshots that an online assessment AI helper can actually answer, for coding tasks and multiple choice questions, and how to fix the message "No complete question was found in the screenshot" in InterviewMan.
Last updated: October 11, 2026.
Key takeaways:
- InterviewMan answers a screenshot only when the whole question is visible. If part of it is cut off, it shows "No complete question was found in the screenshot" instead of guessing.
- Most OA questions are longer than one screen. Zoom the page out, or take several screenshots while you scroll, then press Assist once.
- For multiple choice, every answer option must be in the screenshot. For coding tasks, the problem text, at least one example, and the function signature must be visible.
- The app captures your primary screen. If you use two screens, keep the assessment on the primary one.
- Fastest fallback: copy the question text, paste it into the box, and press Assist.
Where this comes from: InterviewMan is our own product. The steps below are the ones our support team sends to users who see this message during an online assessment.
How screenshot answers work in InterviewMan
- You take a screenshot. On desktop press ⌘ + H on Mac or Ctrl + H on Windows (see keyboard shortcuts). In Stealth Mode, tap Screenshot on your phone and the app captures your laptop's screen.
- The screenshot waits in the tray. Nothing is sent yet. You can take more screenshots, and they all line up in order.
- You press Assist. All screenshots in the tray go to the AI together, plus anything you typed in the box.
- The AI finds the newest question and answers it. It reads the screenshots in order, so a question split over three screenshots is read as one question.
Why you see "No complete question was found in the screenshot"
The AI checks whether the question is complete before it answers. A wrong answer to half a question is worse than no answer, so when the check fails it answers nothing and shows this message.

Download InterviewManA question counts as incomplete when:
- Text is cut off at the top or bottom edge of the screen, or stops in the middle of a sentence.
- A scrollbar shows more text below, and the screenshot doesn't include it.
- A multiple choice question is missing options. Every answer choice must be visible, not just the first three.
- A coding task is missing a key part. It needs the problem statement, at least one input and output example, and the function signature (or the instruction for what to write). Cut-off extra constraints at the very bottom are fine.
Online assessments trigger this a lot, because a typical OA page puts a long problem on the left and the code editor on the right. One screenshot rarely shows the whole problem.
Step by step: screenshot an OA question the right way
- Zoom the test page out. Press ⌘ and minus on Mac, or Ctrl and minus on Windows, once or twice (80% or 90% usually works). Stop when the whole question fits but the text is still easy to read.
- Widen the problem panel if the platform lets you drag the divider between the problem and the code editor.
- Close banners and popups that cover the question, such as cookie bars or "tips" bubbles.
- Take the screenshot.
- Press Assist (⌘ + Enter on Mac, Ctrl + Enter on Windows, or the Assist button).
Long questions: take several screenshots, then press Assist once
When the question still doesn't fit:
- Scroll to the top of the question and take a screenshot.
- Scroll down so the next part shows, with a little overlap, and take another.
- Repeat until you reach the examples and the function signature.
- Press Assist once, at the end.
Don't press Assist after each screenshot. If you do, the AI sees only the first part, finds it incomplete, and shows the message.
Took a bad screenshot? Press ⌘ + D on Mac or Ctrl + D on Windows to remove the most recent one from the tray, then take it again.
Using Stealth Mode on a Mac for an online assessment
In Stealth Mode the app on your Mac is hidden and your phone shows the full interface. The same rules apply:
- Arrange the question on your Mac first (zoom out, scroll to the top).
- Tap Screenshot on your phone. Tap it again after each scroll for long questions.
- Tap Assist on your phone once all parts are captured.
- Read the answer on your phone.
Two screens? Keep the assessment on your primary screen
The screenshot captures your primary screen, the one that shows the menu bar on a Mac. If the assessment is open on a second monitor, the screenshot shows the wrong screen and the AI finds no question.
- Move the test window to your primary screen before you start, or
- On Mac, open System Settings, then Displays, and set the screen with the test as the main display.
If you only use one screen, you can skip this.
Fast fallback: type or paste the question
If the screenshot still doesn't work, or you are short on time:
- Select the question text on the test page and copy it.
- Paste it into the text box in InterviewMan.
- Press Assist.
You can also type a short instruction next to your screenshots, for example "only question 2" or "answer in Python". The AI follows it for the screenshots you send.
Which online assessment platforms does this work on?
Screenshots work on any test platform, because InterviewMan captures your screen, not the website. Users take OAs on:
- HackerRank coding tests and multiple choice sections
- CodeSignal General Coding Assessment and company tests
- Codility, HackerEarth, CoderPad and TestGorilla tests
- Company take-home quizzes in a browser
Each platform has its own monitoring rules. Read our guides on HackerRank and CodeSignal before test day.
Do a practice run before the real assessment
Five minutes of practice saves you during the real test:
- Open a free practice problem on HackerRank or LeetCode.
- Set up exactly as you will on test day: same screen, same zoom, Stealth Mode if you plan to use it.
- Take the screenshots and press Assist.
- If you see the message, zoom out more or add one more screenshot, and try again.
Frequently asked questions
What does "No complete question was found in the screenshot" mean?
It means the AI looked at your screenshot and decided part of the question was missing, for example cut-off text, hidden answer options, or a coding task with no example or function signature. It shows this message instead of guessing an answer.
Can InterviewMan read a question that spans several screenshots?
Yes. Take one screenshot per part while you scroll, then press Assist once. The AI reads the screenshots in order and puts the question together.

Screenshots work on any platform, because the app captures your screen, not the website. The tips in this guide (zoom out, capture the full question, press Assist once) apply to all of them.
Why does the screenshot show the wrong screen?
The app captures your primary screen. If your assessment is on a second monitor, move it to the primary screen, or set that monitor as the main display in your system settings.
What is the fastest fix during a live test?
Copy the question text, paste it into the InterviewMan text box, and press Assist. Pasted text never gets cut off.
Do multiple choice questions need every option visible?
Yes. A multiple choice question counts as complete only when the question and all answer choices are in the screenshots.
