What Glider AI is
Glider AI sells what it calls a Skill Intelligence Platform: coding assessments, role-based skills tests, video interviews and screening workflows, aimed heavily at staffing agencies and high-volume enterprise hiring. That customer base explains the product. Agencies place contractors into client roles, identity fraud is a real and expensive problem for them, and Glider's proctoring is built for that threat model rather than for a candidate quietly consulting ChatGPT.
The consequence for you as a candidate is that Glider's proctoring is oriented around proving you are you. Facial matching, voice matching, government ID capture, second-person detection. AI detection comes along as a side effect of watching everything.

What Glider AI monitors
Every item below is a documented configuration option in Glider's own support articles.
Mandatory screen sharing
"Require screen share", with sub-options "Enable full screen share" and "Enable dual screen detection". Combined with the rule that a proctored candidate "will not be able to proceed in the test without giving access to the camera and sharing the screen", this is the defining feature of the platform. Glider is not inferring what is on your screen from browser events. It is watching your screen.
Browser tab activity and URL logging
"Track browser tab activity" records browsing history, the URLs of sites opened, and content that is copy-pasted during the assessment. In the recruiter's report: "If the candidate had opened any other browser tabs during the session, you can see a list of all those URLs by clicking on Browser tab tracking."
This is more than a tab-switch counter. Other platforms tell the recruiter that you left. Glider tells them where you went.
Limits on leaving the assessment area
"Limit leaving assessment area" restricts the number of tab switches allowed. The ceiling is set by the employer.
Webcam, face detection and facial matching
"Require webcam access" records candidate video. "Capture candidate's picture" plus "Enable facial match" cross-checks your current photo against "a previous picture captured while attempting any Glider assessments". "Enable face detection" watches face movement during the assessment, and "Enable multiple face detection" looks for a second person helping you.
The facial match across assessments is unusual and worth noting: Glider is comparing you to yourself from a previous test, not only to your ID.
Audio tracking and voice verification
"Enable audio tracking" flags instances where "the candidate is talking to somebody or if any human voice is heard in the background".
There is also an explicit voice verification step for interviews: the candidate scans a QR code and records specified text, and that sample is compared against the voice heard during the session, "used to identify if there is any proxy user speaking on behalf of the candidate".
Identity proof capture
"Capture Candidate's identity proof", with "Enable ID Proof image masking" so sensitive fields can be obscured in the stored image.
Dual screen detection
The monitoring report notifies the reviewer if a candidate uses "an external monitor or a dual screen" and flags it as potentially suspicious.
The Chrome extension
Glider's proctoring runs through a browser extension. Its Chrome Web Store listing says it "invigilates the candidate's session during the duration of the test", discloses access to web history, and notes that "Glider seeks the candidate's explicit permission to install the plugin only if the hiring team mandates it as part of the proctoring setup in the assessment".

That rating is candidates reviewing an invigilator, so read it for what it is. The update date is the part we would flag: more than 19 months without a release, on a version number that is still 0.0.1, for a piece of security-sensitive software that watches your browser.
Session recording and behavioural analysis
Glider's auto proctoring writeup lists identity verification using government ID and facial recognition, browser monitoring, webcam monitoring, face recognition for impersonation, behavioural analysis for unusual activity, and session recording for recruiter review, tracking "browser activity, eye movement, screen switching, background noise, and multiple faces appearing on camera".

- Answer timing. "a consistent pause of three to five seconds before every answer". The consistency is the tell, not the pause itself.
- Eye movement. "reading style eye movement, a steady left to right scan", which is what reading an answer looks like on camera compared with thinking about one.
Neither of those is a software detection. They are things a person notices in a recording, which is why they survive any amount of stealth on the machine.

Two caveats. "Not documented" is not "impossible", and a reviewer scrubbing your session recording is not limited to what the system flagged. Given how much Glider records, that second point carries more weight here than on any other platform.
There is also a genuine nuance about screen sharing that candidates get wrong in both directions. Screen sharing captures what the operating system reports as being on the display. On macOS and Windows, applications can be excluded from screen capture and recording APIs, and such a window does not appear in the shared stream. That is a property of the operating system's capture pipeline, not a claim that Glider is blind. Glider still has your webcam, your microphone, your URL list, your extension telemetry and a human reviewer.
Glider says the same thing in its own words. Its post on ChatGPT interview cheating states that "AI proctoring cannot read what is inside another application", and that "Some overlay tools render at a level beneath what standard screen capture picks up". Read that as the vendor setting expectations for its buyers, not as an invitation. The same post is where Glider tells reviewers to fall back on answer timing and eye movement, which is exactly the surface that software stealth does not touch.
How Glider AI scores or flags suspicious behavior
Glider does not publish a single numeric integrity score. It produces a Proctoring Activity summary: a list of flagged behaviours attached to your session, with the evidence beside each one.
The mechanics are review-oriented rather than automatic. Facial match results show your current photo next to your previous one, and the reviewer can mark the status as genuine or suspicious. Audio verification results are presented and "can be reverted based on your review". Browser tab tracking expands into the URL list. The interview video recording sits alongside "the list of suspicious activities".
That design tells you something useful: Glider expects false positives and builds in a human override at each step. A flag on Glider is an invitation to a reviewer, not a verdict. Whether an overloaded agency recruiter with 200 candidates actually exercises that override is a different question.
The signals most likely to end things are the identity ones. A facial mismatch or a voice mismatch is treated as fraud rather than as poor judgement, and there is no version of that conversation that goes well.
What recruiters see in the report
A Glider monitoring report can include:
- your assessment score and answers
- the session video recording
- the screen share recording
- face comparison: your current picture next to a picture from a previous Glider assessment, with a genuine or suspicious status the reviewer sets

Using an AI interview assistant on Glider AI: what works, what is risky
Rules first. If the employer's instructions prohibit outside assistance, using an AI assistant breaks them and a withdrawn offer is a real outcome. On a mandatory-screen-share, camera-on, microphone-on assessment, nobody can claim they did not realise the test was monitored. Clearly risky on Glider:
- Opening anything in a browser tab. The URL list is the single most damning artefact on this platform. Not "candidate switched tabs 6 times", but the addresses.
- A second monitor. Dual screen detection exists specifically for this, and it is on by default in many proctoring templates.
- Talking to yourself, or anyone. Audio tracking flags human voices. Reading an answer aloud, or a housemate walking past on a call, both produce flags.
- Anyone else in frame. Multiple face detection is explicit.
- Any browser extension. Glider's own proctoring runs as an extension, which means the extension surface is exactly where its engineers are paying attention.
Where Glider's documented signals do not reach:
Glider's proctoring is browser-scoped and camera-scoped. Its support documentation describes an extension, screen sharing, webcam, microphone and URL logging. Nothing in it describes enumerating the processes running on your machine.

How to prepare for a Glider AI assessment honestly
- Ask exactly what is enabled. Screen share, dual screen detection, audio tracking, ID capture and browser tracking are separate toggles. You are entitled to know what will be recorded.
- Set up a clean room. One monitor, plain background, good light, door shut, nobody walking through. Half of Glider's flags are environmental.
- Have your ID ready. ID capture is common on staffing-agency assessments and fumbling for a passport mid-test wastes real time.
- Silence everything. Notifications, phones, smart speakers. Audio tracking does not know a podcast from a person.
- Do not open other tabs at all. Not for documentation, not to check the time. Each one is a logged URL.
- Test the extension in advance. It is required, and installing software under time pressure is a bad way to start.

Glider's honest strength is that it solves a problem the coding platforms barely address: identity fraud.
