What Adaface monitors

Each of the following is a separate toggle the employer chooses. Read your invitation email and the pre-test screen: Adaface tells you which ones are active before you begin.

Webcam proctoring

"You can enable webcam proctoring to ensure that candidates can give the assessment only if they enable their webcam properly." Snapshots are taken at intervals during the test, and the employer's view is direct: "The scorecard will display the captured images, so you can check for any suspicious candidate activity."

Note the gating language. With webcam proctoring on, you cannot start without a working camera.

Screen proctoring

This is the setting that surprises people. "Ada will ask candidates to share their entire screen during the test. If they leave the window or open another window during the test, Ada will capture a screenshot of their screen." The employer sees "the captured images for advanced cheating detection."

Two things follow. First, this is a browser screen-share prompt: you choose to share, and you can see what you are sharing. Second, the trigger is behavioral. Adaface takes the screenshot when you leave the window, which is exactly the moment a candidate would be looking at something else.

Full-screen proctoring

"You can enable full-screen proctoring to ensure that candidates can give the assessment only if they stay in the full-screen mode." The scorecard shows "the number of times they exited full-screen mode and for how long."

Duration is the part people underestimate. Three exits of two seconds each reads very differently from one exit of ninety seconds.

Web and tab proctoring

"You can restrict candidates to stay on the Adaface session. They will receive alerts if they switch tabs/windows." The scorecard gets "a detailed log of their activity outside the test session."

IP proctoring

"Adaface IP proctoring detection enables you to check if the same assessment was accessed from multiple IP addresses," and "The candidate's IP address, city and country are tracked and reported in the scorecard."

Copy-paste protection

"Adaface chat & code editor environment have copy-paste disabled." This is stated as a property of the environment rather than a toggle, so assume you cannot paste a generated solution into the editor.

AI cheating detection, which is a separate class of thing

The line worth reading twice: "Candidates will be asked to download an additional app to their device. This app will ensure that the candidate is not using any external apps or devices while giving the test."

That is not a web page observing itself. That is software running on your operating system, described by the vendor as checking for external applications and devices. Adaface has publicly discussed pairing this with routine testing of whether current models can solve its questions.

If your invitation asks you to install anything, treat the assessment as a locked-down one and plan accordingly.

What Adaface cannot see

Split this by configuration, because the honest answer changes.

With only webcam, tab, full-screen and IP proctoring on, the detection surface is the browser. A web page can see its own visibility, its own full-screen state, its own paste events, the camera stream you granted and the IP you connected from. It cannot enumerate the processes on your machine. A native application that never injects into the assessment page is outside that boundary.

With screen proctoring on, the boundary moves to whatever the screen-share stream captures. Native overlays that are excluded from screen-capture and recording APIs do not appear in that stream, which is a real architectural difference from a browser extension that renders inside the shared window. But the screenshots are triggered by you leaving the window, so the failure mode is behavioral rather than technical: the screenshot fires at the exact moment your other window is on top.

With the AI cheating detection app installed, we are not going to give you a comfortable answer. Adaface describes it as checking for external apps and devices on your machine. How Adaface scores or flags suspicious behavior

Adaface does not publish a single named suspicion score. It accumulates evidence on the scorecard:

• Webcam images captured during the session.
• Screenshots captured when you left the window, under screen proctoring.
• A count of full-screen exits and the duration of each.
• A detailed log of activity outside the test session under tab proctoring.
• IP address, city and country, plus a flag if the same assessment was opened from multiple addresses.
• Any signals reported by the AI cheating detection app, when enabled.

Because Adaface is often used for volume screening, the reviewer's workflow is comparison. Your scorecard sits next to other candidates', and the anomalies that stand out are relative: you are the one with fourteen full-screen exits when the median is zero.

What recruiters see in the report

Everything above lands on one scorecard next to your score and Ada's transcript of the conversation. That last part is specific to Adaface and easy to forget: because the assessment is conversational, the reviewer can read the exchange, not just the final answers.

For coding questions, the reviewer sees the submitted code and its test results. For non-technical roles, they see your written answers in context. Then they see the proctoring panel: images, exit counts, exit durations, activity log, location.

Using an AI interview assistant on Adaface: what works, what is risky

What is technically true. InterviewMan is a native desktop application, not a browser extension. Its overlay is excluded from screen capture and recording APIs, and it is hidden from the dock, the taskbar and the app switcher. What is risky on Adaface specifically. Three things, in order.

1. The AI cheating detection app. If your assessment asks you to install it, you are no longer facing browser code. We do not have measured results against it and will not pretend otherwise.
2. Full-screen exit duration. Adaface reports how long you left, not just that you left. Long absences are the most legible signal on the scorecard.
3. Ada's follow-up questions. The conversational format invites depth. Answers that arrive polished but cannot survive a follow-up are visible in the transcript, which a human reads.

What breaks immediately. Browser extensions and browser overlays. Under screen proctoring they are inside the shared window, and the editor blocks pasting anyway.
