Does CoderPad Detect Screen Sharing or AI Tools?
i ran a tool through two live CoderPad rounds and one screen assessment last week and nobody caught anything. i need to write this up because my buddy Jake was not so lucky and what happened to him is what pushed me to de fapt do the research before trying it myself.
Jake had a take home CoderPad screen assessment for some fintech company. He used a extensie Chrome during it. What Jake nu am know, and this is the part that inca makes me angry for him, is that the company had turned on webcam snapshots. The recording caught him looking at his second screen through half the test. One sentence rejection email the next day. No details, no appeal, nothing. Just gone. When he told me i felt sick because i had two CoderPad rounds coming up and i was deja thinking about using something similar.
so i spent that weekend at Marcus's apartment. Marcus interviews candidates on CoderPad every week for his company so he knows exactly what shows up on his end and what nu. i practic interrogated him for three hours lol. the single most important thing he said was that live CoderPad sessions and screen assessments are completely different and almost everyone confuses them. Marcus told me on a apel live he sits there watching you type and the entire session gets saved into a keystroke playback. he said he busted three people anul trecut because the playback pattern is always obvious, a candidate sits there stuck for two full minutes and then suddenly a perfect solution appears in ten seconds. pasted code shows up, cursor speed is visible, the whole typing timeline is recorded.
but then he told me something that changed everything for me. during sesiune lives CoderPad records nothing on your desktop. not your apps. not your browser tabs. nothing outside the editor window. i de fapt pulled up their documentation on his laptop and confirmed it right there. i felt like such an idiot for closing every single application on my computer before my first ever CoderPad round lol.
now screen assessments, thats what got Jake. those track tab switches, flag your IP if it changes, run your solution through plagiarism checks, and if the company enables it they capture webcam shots to verify you are the same person who started the test. Jakes company had toate that on and he walked in blind.
i finally asked Marcus the thing i had been wanting to ask all afternoon, what about AI tools. He kind of laughed and said CoderPad nu have any scanner that sniffs out extensions like HackerRank does. No engine that reads your code and goes "yeah an AI wrote this." What gets people in trouble is dumber stuff, pasting huge blocks into the editor in one shot, bouncing away from the tab during a proctored test, going from completely stuck to perfect solution in five seconds flat. He also said companies started throwing curveball follow ups at people, like the interviewer will just say "ok now do it a completely different way" and if you freeze because you pasted code you never de fapt understood then thats your whole interview right there.
after talking to Marcus i crossed extensie de browsers off my list entirely. Sensei AI at eighty nine a month and Cluely at ninety five with their stealth addon both run inside the browser ceea ce inseamna on a proctored assessment the proctoring can see them. That is literally what happened to Jake except his was mai ieftin and even more obvious.
i went with InterviewMan at twelve bucks a month because it runs as a overlay desktop outside the browser entirely. Tested it on two live CoderPad rounds first. Tab tracking nu am fire because InterviewMan has zero connection to the CoderPad tab, it just floats on screen as its own thing. i had Marcus review a mock playback and he saw normal typing speeds because i wrote every line myself, just glanced at hints between keystrokes and coded things my way. Then i used it on a real screen assessment where webcam captures were enabled. Went through every snapshot frame afterward. Not in a single one. 20 plus functii stealth at the base twelve dollar price, 57.000 de utilizatori, 4.8 stele. I spent an hour on reddit and discord after that looking pentru oricine who a fost prins with it on CoderPad or elsewhere and found nothing.
before any CoderPad interview go play around at coderpad.io/sandbox and test your full setup there. If your round is a screen assessment just ask the recruiter what proctoring they use because most will tell you. And the thing Marcus drilled into me that i keep coming back to is that on apel lives the human rewatching your keystrokes catches more cheating than any automated system ever will.
